For the creation of your custom message, we use a vintage, fully-restored Royal HH "portable" typewriter (portable is in quotation marks because the machine weighs nearly forty pounds). The model, first released in 1952, boasts The Royal Typewriter Company's patented "Magic" Margins, "Touch Control" and anti-glare green keys, among other innovative specs.
More importantly, though, it's just fun to use and works like a charm, which is impressive for a nearly seventy-year-old machine. There are no decayed plastic parts to replace. It is a dense unit of stainless steel components that was built to last. (Seriously, it's dense. The compact unit weighs close to forty pounds.)
That's what is so fun about playing on an old machine like this one. It is like the past seventy intervening years never even took place. Typing on it reminds one of the ultra-convenience of today's technology with its luxuries like backspace and spell check.
It does have one advantage over today's tech though: no printer necessary. When you're done typing, your document is already printed out!
If you have never played on a manual typewriter, we highly recommend you get your hands on one. Besides providing the simple thrill of the clickity-clack of the keys and the ding of the margin bell, a typewriter offers to young people a chance to experience the not-so-distant past and to older folks a nostalgic reminder of the days before computers accelerated life to mind-numbing speeds.
Until you get one of your own, you can use Sincerely Typewritten Letters to share your heartfelt messages in the neat and tidy type that only a classic typewriter can provide.
