Nick Smetzer
(pronounced 'Nick')

Media Director

I’ve been shooting short film projects for years, and have written comedy or fiction for almost a decade. My goal at Zeneration Wealth is to help spread a philosophy of well-being that avoids the vapid materialism and unchecked consumption that is so present in modern life through engaging, funny, and relatable content.

As Cheyne developed his vision for the Zeneration Wealth movement, I could not help but be inspired to join the project. It’s my hope that Zeneration Wealth can become a tool for my generation to discover wealth in what makes life worth living, rather than in money alone.

My money mantras

  • Before I spend, I always ask: "Will this enrich me?" (Using the broadest possible sense of the word enrich)

  • "Want-less" – both an injunction to myself and a prayer. It kind of comes from Buddhism's Four Noble Truths

  • It's not about how much money you get but rather how you treat the money you have

My favorite resources

The Soul of Money

Lynne Twist

There are three main money myths that drive our capitalistic, competitive culture: More is better, Never enough and You or me. These myths are out of harmony with nature and the soul, which thrive on connection, collaboration, and the belief in sufficiency.

Rich Dad, Poor Dad

Robert Kiyosaki & Sharon Lechter

Assets vs. liabilities. Assets put money in your pocket. Liabilities take money out. I am so grateful I read this book in high school. It truly changed the trajectory of my life and began my fascination with discovering the keys to financial health and well being.

Outwitting the Devil

Napoleon Hill

I believe in each of us there is an 'inner self' who speaks our purpose. We have a choice to abide by that voice and trust its divine authority or live in fear. Napoleon hill literally puts the Devil on trial, and compels him to confess how he leads men and women astray. Whether you believe in the devil or not, the metaphor is potent.
